Delta Club Training Class Information

All Delta Club sponsored training classes are FREE to anyone interested in obtaining an amateur radio license.  The only expense incurred by the students is for whatever books, tapes or other training materials that will be used for the respective class and any fees required for the testing session.  None of these moneys go to the Delta Club.


Completed Classes

November 2007

Technician License Class 7-07– Completed (5 Techs and 1 General) 
Seven students attended the 2-day 8am-5pm Technician Class at Baptist Hospital Collierville on November 5th and 6th. The successful students are Dale Burt KJ4AJB from Baptist Collierville; Timothy Costict KJ4AJD from Baptist Corporate: Scott Vanlandingham KE5RHL from Baptist Desoto. The other students were Jim Kook KJ4AJC, Jim Sanders KE5RHM, and Carl Todd KJ4AJE. Congratulations to all.

The instructors/facilitators were Joe Lowenthal WA4OVO, Rick Tillman WA4NVM, and Bill Stevens KI4TQA. Win Guin’s WCARS VEC Team administered the FCC exams on the last day of the class.

Contratulations again to Carl Todd KJ4AJE who upgraded to General on November 17th at the WCARS testing session.

September/October 2007

Technician License Class 6-07– Completed (3 Techs / 1General)

Congratulations to the following 4new hams:

The Technician License class was held for five (5) weeks at the VA Medical Center from 10am-12noon on Tuesdays and Thursdays, which started September 11th and ended October 11th. Originally there were 12 students. Only 7 took the test.

Joe Lowenthal WA4OVO, Tom Fox KA4LWQ, Russ Myers WD4JHD, Bill Stevens KI4TQA and Bill Covington KC4SXT were instructors/facilitators.

Pat Lane W4OQG provided insight from his vast knowledge on antennas and feed lines.

Delta Division Director Henry Leggett WD4Q welcomed the students to the world of ham radio and ARRL. WCARS' Win Guin VE Team provided FCC testing. Thanks to all for a successful class.

July - August 2007

Technician License Class 5-07 – Completed (10 new Techs / 5 new Generals)

The Technician License classes were held on five Thursday nights from July 12th through August 9th, 2007 at Germantown Baptist Church and ended with 16 students. From the original 18 students, 15 have taken the Technician exam, and passed. 

Congratulations to Rosalinda Melena KI4ZKW, the latest  who received her license on September 17th. Angie KI4YOO obtained her uncle's call W4ZJY.

The facilitator/instructors were Richard Garrett, AI4BN, Pat Lane W4OQG, and Joe Lowenthal WA4OVO.

The testing was conducted by the WCARS VE team of Win Guin, W2GLJ; Walter Heald, WB4GIJ; Edie Heald, KS4OK; Gary Weatherford, N4LGY; Rick Tillman, WA4NVM; and Joe Lowenthal, WA4OVO.


May 2007

General License Class 4-07 – Completed (10 Upgrades)

The first General License class for 2007 was held on 3 days, Saturday, April 28 8am-5pm; Sunday, April 29 1pm-5-pm and Saturday, May 5 8am-3pm with FCC VE testing May 5 from 3-5pm.

The General License class was an 18 hour course.  The class was held at the Health Dept. Annex Training Room W-204/206 at 1075 Mullins Station Road.  Joe Lowenthal, WA4OVO was the lead facilitator. Guest instructors were Hugh Wardlaw, WB4SLI, and Pat Lane, W4OQG.

The General class consisted of the 7 hour ARRL King Technician Class DVD as well as General electronics, propagation, operations, antennae and safety. 


March 2007

Technician License Class 3-07 - Completed (16 new hams)

The third Technician License class was an intense 2 day class from 8:00am to 5:00pm on March 12 & 13 held at Baptist Memorial Hospital - Collierville.  The ARRL Technician DVD presentation provided the information with questions and answers after each segment.  The second day completed the DVD presentation with an extensive review until 3:45pm.  The WCARS FCC VE team gave the exams.  When the students passed the Technician exam, they were encouraged to take the General exam.  This gave the students an insight into the General test.  Of the 17 students that took the Technician exam, 16 passed.  One student passed the General exam as well. 

Technician License Class 2-07 - Completed (7 new hams)

The second Technician License class consisted of 5 training sessions plus a review and an FCC exam session on April 2, 2007.  The classes were for 6 consecutive Monday nights from 6:30 to 9 pm.  They were held in the Germantown Police training room at Germantown City Hall, 1730 S. Germantown Rd, Germantown, TN.  There were 14 students in this class.


January 2007

Technician License Class 1-07 - Completed (19 new hams)

The first class of 2007 was a Technician License training class that ran from Monday night, January 8 to Monday, February 5.  We are excited to announce that this call produced 19 new amateur radio operators for the Memphis area.  Congratulation to these new "hams" and we enjoy hearing them on the air.
