Delta Amateur Radio Club
2009 Training Class Information

This page last modified on 12/19/09

All Delta Club sponsored training classes are FREE to anyone interested in obtaining an amateur radio license.  The only expense incurred by the students is for whatever books, tapes or other training materials that will be used for the respective class and any fees required for the testing session.  None of these moneys go to the Delta Club.

Delta Amateur Radio Club had a wonderful year in 2009 with 83 students receiving licenses or upgrades in the five license classes held.  Eight of the 46 Technicians were young hams who can keep our great hobby going for many years to come.  One of those young hams also earned his General license.  Thanks go to all of the volunteers that helped to make 2009 a great year.  The club, wanting to continue bringing the world of ham radio to more people, is already planning new classes for 2010.  You can check this page regularly for the latest information regarding class schedules.

Technician License Class

No Morse Code Requirement for any Amateur Radio License.  Get your name on the list for the next class NOW by sending an email to Joe Lowenthal, WA4OVO.  Most of the technician classes are held one night a week on Monday or Thursday nights for 5 or 6 weeks.  We have also had a 2-day (16 hours total) weekday class, usually held on a Tuesday and Wednesday.  Click this link to email Joe and get your name on the list for the next class.

To prepare for the Technician License classes, you will need the latest copy of "The ARRL Ham Radio License Manual", an ARRL publication
(item #9639/ISBN 0-87259-963-9).  You can obtain the manual directly from the ARRL  at www.arrl.org/catalog/, or possibly at Amazon.com.  You can purchase the manual locally at Barnes & Noble Booksellers.  The retail price is $24.95.  The question pool in "The ARRL Ham Radio License Manual" is valid for FCC exams through the June 30, 2010 test sessions.  The manual is a good reference guide for future use.  As stated at the top of the page, Delta Club does not charge any fee for the class but we highly recommend that you purchase the manual and there will be a fee of $15 for the ARRL FCC examination at the end of the class.

ARRL, the American Radio Relay League, is the national Amateur Radio organization, head quartered in Newington, CT.  The ARRL web site is www.arrl.org.

General License Class

For those Novice and Technician licensees that are interested in upgrading to a General Class license, Delta Club is planning a General training class in the near future.  If you have let "the code" keep you from advancing to General, now's the time for you to upgrade.  If you have an interest in attending a class to help you upgrade, click this link to email Joe Lowenthal, WA4OVO, and let him know.  Check back on this page frequently as class information will be posted here as soon as a class is scheduled.

Basic Electronics Class
