Farewell Memphis Amateur

For many years the amateur community in and around the Memphis area was very fortunate to have our own ham radio store right here in our city.  Beginning life as a television repair shop known as Sere-Rose, it later became Sere-Rose-Spencer.  Bill Sere and Stan Rose were already hams but back in the late 60's or early 70's, a new employee at the store, also a ham, revived Bill and Stan's interest in ham radio and they decided to start selling some amateur radio equipment as a side line.  One small corner of the store was set aside for this new line of equipment.  Marshal Robilio KU4O, the owner of Germantown Electronics eventually merged with Sere-Rose-Spencer and the name changed to Memphis Amateur Electronics.  The store became one of the premiere amateur radio supply stores of the time.

Unfortunately, after many years of great service to the amateur radio community in the Memphis area and also the entire country, Memphis Amateur has decided to close it's doors very soon but it will never be forgotten in the hearts and minds of the amateurs that enjoyed the camaraderie and good times that this store provided over the many years of service to the area.  Clicking on the title link to this section takes you to a page in honor of the "candy store" and depicts some photos that were taken at the last holiday party held on Tuesday December 22, 2009.

For those that might want to contact the folks there to say goodbye, the link below will take you to their "contact us" page on their website where address, phone number and email information can be found.  There's not much time left before the doors close for good.  To Bill Sere W4TNP (SK), Stan Rose W4RMW (SK), Bob Spencer WB4GCP (SK), Marshal Robilio KU4O, Tom Richardson K4TTA, Doug Richardson K4DBR, Cornelia Richardson and the many folks that have worked at the "candy store" over the years.....thanks so much for a great store and for all of the support that you've shown to Delta Club and all of the other ham organizations over the years...you will be greatly missed.

Being a public service minded group, DARC would like to offer the information below on Missing Children. Please take a minute and look at the graphic and see the 12 most recently reported missing children in America.  For those living close to our area, please follow the link below to your particular state for a list of children just from your state. We hope that by posting this information on our site, maybe one child will be found and returned to their families safely.  One out of ever 7 children is returned safely because of this photo campaign.
